Tips and tricks

Macros for Efficiency

Create macros for your most common correction/modification combinations to minimize adjustments. Macros can contain multiple settings, yet all can still be modified after application.

Insole Shape Modifications

When working with Printing: Solid devices:

  • Top design changes automatically affect the plantar design
  • To modify only the plantar design, you must specifically select it
  • Changes to the plantar design don't affect the top part

2D Scan Calibration

To calibrate 2D scans to the correct size:

  1. Select the 2D scan
  2. Click on Scale 2D
  3. Click a starting point (e.g., 0 on a ruler)
  4. Click an end reference point (e.g., 10cm mark)
  5. Type the actual length in mm (e.g., 100) and press Enter
  6. The distance between points will now be exactly as specified

Element and Sink Positioning

Modify shoe size before positioning elements or sinks. Otherwise, they'll scale with the shoe size, requiring repositioning.

Element and Sink Adjustments

When fine-tuning elements from side, front, or rear views:

  • Keep bottom points at their vertical position to prevent elements from "floating" or disappearing
  • For sinks, maintain the vertical position of top points

Element and Sink Visibility Improvements

When precise element or sink positioning is difficult:

  • Use transparency mode
  • Hide the insole entirely to better view positioning relative to 2D scans, pressure plates, or 3D scans

Optimizing Element Splitting

When using multiple elements with automatic splitting for hardness zones:

  • Processing time increases with each element
  • Disable splitting for elements that don't need to create hardness zones to reduce processing time

Regional Total Contact

For specific heel cup shapes, use Prefab 3D insole with regional total contact. This creates total contact in selected areas (like the arch) while maintaining your preferred device design.

Text Visibility for 3D Printing

When adding text to a Printing: Solid device on medial/lateral sides, use the Emboss setting to make text stand out more clearly.
